There’s definitely a “new wave” in herring. One of the more interesting varieties is herring made with slices of jalapeno pepper; you may have sampled it at a kiddush or bought a container from your local kosher grocery. I found I really enjoyed it: the fresh acidity of the jalapeno really complements the oily herring. But the TRC Litfish Spicy Schmaltz Herring is like a perfecting of this whole concept! It not only has excellent herring, spicy bits of pepper, and onions, but also a truly tasty and complex set of spices that work together very well. Who would have thought of schmaltz herring as a “symphony of deep flavors”? I’ve started giving this TRC container as a gift to friends. If you like interesting, spicy food, try this.
